Star Vs Food: Nora Fatehi revisits her Moroccan roots in the kitchen with a tadka of her charm and humour

After a successful season of some of the top Bollywood stars trying their hands in the kitchen, discovery+ has kick-started the second season of Star Vs Food. The first season saw the likes of Karan Johar, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Malaika Arora, Arjun Kapoor, and Pratik Gandhi grace the show and cook for their loved ones. While the new season was kickstarted by Janhvi Kapoor and followed by the likes of Anil Kapoor and Ananya Panday, now it’s the turn of the Bollywood sensation Nora Fatehi.

Nora Fatehi revisits her Moroccan roots in the kitchen with a tadka of her charm and humour

PREPARING THE MENU-
Nora Fatehi who has impressed people with her killer dance moves and her impressive fashion sense, took up the challenge to impress with her culinary skills. Nora under the guidance of Chef Rahul Desai, Executive Chef at Blah in Mumbai, revisited her traditional roots of Moroccan food. Talking about why she decided to cook Moroccan dishes to treat her friends, she said, "Mainly because I am Morrocan and not a lot of people cook Moroccan in India. It’s an acquired flavour. But once you taste Moroccan you can never go back. Also because my dad is a chef and not a lot of people know about that." With this, the chef and Nora decided on preparing the traditional Chicken Olive Tagine, and Lamb Harira Soup.

A very confident Nora enters the kitchen with the hope to put her culinary skills to the test that she developed over the last few years on her own.

COOKING STAGE-
Nora Fatehi looks stunning as ever dressed in an off-shoulder black gown, looking all ready and enthusiastic to take over the kitchen. They first start working on the Harira and Nora’s first task is to chop the onions. Nora was a little intimated by the size of the knife and expressed worry about chopping off her fingers and joked that she really needed them to be intact for her upcoming music videos. While she gets into the flow of chopping, she also recalls her waitressing days. "I was 16, 17, 18 on and off I was waitressing and it's very difficult to be a waitress. You have to have communication skills, personality, you have to be fast, you have to have a good memory and sometimes customers can be mean so you have to be able to handle situations. But it was a side hustle, it was a way to make money on the side and I think it is a culture we have in Canada like everybody has jobs, you go to school and work at the same time."

ALL ABOUT FOOD!!
Nora admitted that she is a big foodie and being in a multi-cultural city in Canada only exposed her to various cuisines. When asked about her meals at her home, Nora revealed, "Because I was born and raised in Canada, it was a very cosmopolitan city very multicultural. I have friends from different parts of the world and we are so heavily influenced by different cultures be it Indian, Somalian, Kenyan, Caribbean, Italian, we cooked everything at home. My mom specialized in Moroccan so on Friday's we would have Couscous, on Sundays we have Tagine, and in the week she would mix it up and have spaghetti, Bolognese and she'll try all these different recipes and sometimes we have tried Middle Eastern food as well".

NORA ON THE CULTURE OF PUTTING ON WEIGHT-

While Nora is self admittedly a big foodie and has grown up in a house with lots of food, the actress still manages to keep herself fit. When the chef asked her how she manages to stay fit despite her love for all things food, she said, "I come from a culture where skinny is not good. So we really love thickness and curviness in female bodies. So for me, I am always trying to be thick and curvy and put on weight that's the cultural mentality that we have. SO that why we constantly eat a lot".

QUESTIONING THE CHEF-

Nora claims to know all about Moroccan food and goes ahead to check if the chef has all the spices required to prepare the Harira making a checklist for the chef. The chef later decides to check Nora’s skill by challenging her to correctly fetch all the ingredients required for the Harira, Surprisingly, she fails. Nora says that she was thrown off by the challenge and was not prepared at all. Nora also brings in her charm and humour into the kitchen making the episode an exciting watch.

TAGINE TIME-

Nora starts preparing her final dish which is the Chicken Olive Tagine. This is where Nora and Rahul have differences in opinion on how the dish should look and on the quantities of the ingredients, especially the spices. Nora is reluctant to add too many spices while Rahul likes it the desi way with a lot of spices to bring in the flavour and colour. Nora even goes ahead and says, “Putting mirchi in Harira was a traumatic moment”.

LEARNING HINDI-

Nora also spoke about her knack for picking up languages. "I did learn to read and write in Arabic when I was younger in Canada in Sunday Schools. But then when I was a teenager I moved to Saudi Arabia for 2 years and people there didn’t understand our language- Derija. So I had to learn their Arabic which was very hard for me at that time. But I learned it," she said.

"I didn’t know Hindi at all right. But all my friends know Hindi because they watched Bollywood films and picked it from films. But when I came I was more scared and traumatized because I knew I had a small amount of time to learn and I had to learn fast. I think that was the most difficult part, to learn it was not hard in terms of learning. I really enjoyed learning it and I was hungry to learn and be able to speak to people and impress people," she added.

THE KITCHEN MOVE-
How can Nora come on a show and not show one of her stunning dance moves? When the chef requested her to show the audience some of her dance moves, Nora sportingly agreed and also got the chef to shake his leg. Nora took a pan to use as a prop and did a dance step that the chef also tried to follow.

The dishes were ready. While Nora was all praise for Rahul, the chef also complimented her skills, he said that if she spends some more time in the kitchen she has a backup career option as a chef.

TASTE TIME-

Nora had invited her friend Marce Pedrozo and musician Badshah to try the food prepared by her and give their verdict. Before the two tasted the food, Nora joked, “When I was in the kitchen I shocked the chef. He left his job". The two were supremely impressed by Nora’s culinary skills and had no complaints.

Star Vs Food featuring Nora Fatehi will be premiered on discovery+ on October 6.

K-pop group aespa makes ‘Savage’ comeback in badass futuristic warrior avatars, watch video

Following the teaser drop of their much-anticipated debut mini album’s title track ‘Savage’ a day before, South Korean girl group aespa is proving nothing but its growth and dominance with every comeback.  The album dropped on October 5 accompanied by the music video.

aespa keeps proving their unmatched power as a rookie group, following the massive success of their single ‘Next Level’ on charts. ‘Savage’ is on the next level as well. Directed with magical fantasy backdrop, the aespa members stun with their visuals and choreography.  The music video also shows tries to connect with different storyline of aespa universe, as in various stills the ‘Black Mamba’ can be seen taking its place.

Set in the futuristic theme, be it melody or the music video, the track gives the powerful vibes. With each aespa members have their own realm; they use magical elements to show their powers and dominance. The lyrics of the track emphasizes about wanting to destroy someone with your savage nature. In continuation to their previous songs, ‘Savage’ follows aespa’s unique storyline and tells the story of how aespa and their avatars “ae” receive the help of “naevis” and head out to “KWANGYA” to fight the villain Black Mamba.

Though the teasers did look like that the concept and genre will be dark and going to be explosive but the song seemed to be little lighter than expected but still promised to give something powerful. The concept still fits their age and given the AE concept they have the group really is trying a different song flow & not something that you can just memorize in a day because each part change melody and only chorus repeats.

Savage’ is aespa’s third release of 2021, following their viral May hit ‘Next Level’ and February single ‘Forever’. The former was a rework of A$ton Wyld’s song of the same name from the soundtrack of Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Meanwhile, ‘Forever’ was a cover of Yoo Young-jin’s 2000 holiday song of the same title

Savage’ also leaves no crumbs when talked about the member Winter’s rapping skills from the track. However, fans are also pleased with Giselle for having more lines than usual. Talking about the powerful high notes, SM entertainment sure does know the job.  Ningning’s high notes in the verses also make the ‘Savage’ just more savage.

The choreography of the song also matches the energy of the track though Karina in the center never disappoints. The MV is made even more attractive and catchy as for the first time, AESPA’s fandom name-“naevis” makes its own place with lyrics going- You are the one who protected me when I was in trouble/My naevis, we love you/

‘Savage’ being a track with a trap genre led by an aggressive drum beat and bass line, the choreography and members lineup also makes the track more aggressive and badass. Another aspect of the start of the song can also be depicted as the consistency of the aespa's title tracks as they always begin with "I'm". As noted in song, ‘Black Mamba’ which begins with “I'm addicted,” while ‘Next Level’ also starts with “I'm on the next level.” Following the same now ‘Savage’ also begins with "I'm a killa.”

With lyrics going in rhythm, “Now I'm going to get you now/ I'm a savage/Gimme, gimme now/ Gimme, gimme now (Zu-zu-zu-zu)/I can see your words, your weakness Algorithm (Zu-zu-zu-zu),” the track sure is badass. The song is composed by Kirsten Collins, Jia Lih, Yoo Young Jin, and Hautboi Rich, with Korean lyrics penned by Yoo Young Jin.

The album contains six tracks total including the title track “Savage” which broke the record for being the best-selling K-pop girl group debut album. aespa's first mini album 'Savage' has now surpassed 400,000 pre-order sales making its way to record the 2nd highest first week sales by any K-Pop girl group.

Aside from ‘Savage’, aespa’s new mini-album also features five other songs. They include collaboration with American singer Hayley Kiyoko, who is credited as a composer for closing track ‘Lucid Dream’, as well as ‘Yeppi Yeppi’, co-written and -composed by South Korean singer-songwriter.

To say it’s been an eventful year in the music industry would be an understatement. We witnessed some of the most successful solo debuts in the K-pop industry; new eras of music have highlighted the strengths of the groups. Amongst them is HOT ISSUE, the group that aims to rise through their talents.

K-pop group HOT ISSUE talks about their debut, first single album'ICONS'; enjoys listening to BLACKPINK, Ariana Grande, OH MY GIRL

Formed by S2 Entertainment in 2021, the group consists of seven members: Mayna, Nahyun, Hyeongshin, Dana, Yewon, Yebin, and Dain. They made their debut back in April with 'Issue Maker' and have already made their comeback in September 2021 with their first single album ICONS. They emerged as a prominent rookie icon of the 2021 K-pop music scene receiving love and support from the public while becoming a hot topic at the same time as their debut presenting eye-catching charm and unique identity.

HOT ISSUE’s 1st single album intuitively conveys a message that everyone is an extraordinary being, and that they can be an ‘icon’. Especially, this album is anticipated to showcase HOT ISSUE’s musical growth and greatly improved stage performance. The title song of this album ‘ICONS’ more powerfully conveys HOT ISSUE’s slogans ‘upfront’ and ‘fearless’. It presents the idea that I can also change and color the world with my own color after breaking the systemized rules although ‘I’ as a being may seem feeble and powerless. Additionally, they enhanced the level of understanding of this song by presenting a world that is changing bit by bit by the members fearlessly standing up for freedom in the music video.

In their first-ever interview with Bollywood Hungama, HOT ISSUE talks about their debut, their first single album, shooting ‘ICONS’ music video, enjoying the music of Ariana Grande, K-pop groups BLACKPINK, OH MY GIRL, DREAMCATCHER among others.

What is the concept of the single album ‘ICONS’?
YEWON: 'ICONS' is a concept that reveals the confidence and honesty of HOT ISSUE, which contains the message that everyone can break the set rules and change the world with their own color.

How fun was it to shoot the music video for the title track ‘ICONS’? Share some anecdotes.
YEBIN: We filmed the music video outdoors, and I remember it was really hot because of the sunlight. Still, I feel good because the natural light seems to be beautifully captured on the screen as much as we worked hard.

MAYNA: There was a scene that we filmed on a high rooftop, and I was really scared because I was afraid of heights. But I got better because I was holding hands with DAIN and NAHYUN next to me.

DAIN: When we filmed the music video, there were many scenes from high places. Before I went up without knowing that I am afraid of heights, I thought it would be cool to shoot there, but after I got there, I was so scared. But the members talked to me and held my hands, so I remember finishing the shoot safely.

Tell us something about the B-side track 'Hot Candy'?
DANA: The B-side track 'Hot Candy' is a song of a genre that combines trap-pop, comparing confidence in attractiveness that you can't escape once you fall for it to 'Candy'.

You are an all-rounder group with rap, vocals, and dance skills. Why was it important you’re your hone all the skills as a debut group?
YEBIN: There are still many shortcomings, but I think it's to show more diverse aspects and prove our skills and talents as artists.

NAHYUN: And since we are a team, I think the individual improvement in skills leads to improvement in the team as a whole. That's why we try to improve individual skills as a member of the team and for ourselves.

You've debuted this year and, in few months, you are making a comeback. What's something each of you has learnt so far as artists?
HYEONGSHIN: First of all, the biggest thing we felt together was that we got stage experience. And I think we learned a lot from the fact that so many people help to create a stage, and from feeling and expressing gratitude for them.

What’s one takeaway for each of you from this album?
NAHYUN: I think choreography of 'ICONS' is a genre that I haven't tried throughout my trainee period and even after we debut. So I think we were able to expand the scope of our dance genre while preparing for this album.

YEWON: Personally, I think our teamwork and my vocal skill has improved a lot. I felt that our teamwork improved a lot while preparing for 'ICONS' as I saw us matching much easier and faster than 'GRATATA'. As for vocal skills, it was my first time to sing a bridge part which has such a high note, so I felt a lot of pressure, but I think my skills improved in the process of practicing it.

YEBIN: All of the members seem to have a deeper understanding of the song through this album.

MAYNA: All of the members got cooler than before and everyone's confidence has increased.

DAIN: I think we've gained a lot from our skills, and I think our teamwork has improved also.

HYEONGSHIN: As I tried and practiced understanding the concept of this album, my confidence seem to have been charged a lot.

DANA: I think it's a vocal skill because I became to be able to sing the range of notes that I couldn't easily do during 'GRATATA' promotion. So I think it is the vocal skill and my red hair.

K-pop group HOT ISSUE talks about their debut, first single album'ICONS'; enjoys listening to BLACKPINK, Ariana Grande, OH MY GIRL

Since you debuted amid the pandemic, how have you kept yourself motivated during this past year?
DAIN: First of all, it was very sad and shame that there were no fans when we had the concert, but our fans cheered us a lot and sent us a lot of letters, so I was able to gain energy.

NAHYUN: Everyone hopes and strives to make the situation gets better quickly now, and I think this period will pass someday. It's very sad that we can't meet our fans face-to-face right now, but nevertheless, thanks to the fans who continue to support us, I think we should put aside our disappointment for a while and prepare for our comeback harder.

There are so many things to explore music and concept-wise. What would you try to do next?
YEWON: There are a lot of things I want to try and do, but I think we'll do well even with concepts like high-teen, so I'd like to try it at least once.

DANA: We are ready to pull off the concept no matter what concept it is, but personally, since 'GRATATA' and this album is focusing on delivering energy, I would like to try a song that can comfort the public, focusing on vocal skills.

Who are some of your favourite artists who you listen to a lot?
NAHYUN: I have a lot of songs on my playlist, but the artist I listen to the most is Ariana Grande since a long time ago.

YEWON: I like Dreamcatcher. There are many good songs and strong songs, but I listen to them very often because there are many recharging songs and lovely and bright songs.

YEBIN: I like OH MY GIRL. I really like them because I have a memory that I cheered up while listening to OH MY GIRL's songs whenever I had a hard time.

MAYNA: I like BLACKPINK. When I listen to their songs, I gain energy.

DANA: For me, it is Kiana Ledé. There are many things to learn musically from her so I like her.

HYEONGSHIN: I listen to CL's songs a lot. When I listen to it, I feel confident, so I listen to it often.

DAIN: I listen to a lot of Jessi's songs. She is really cool and I remember that she gave me a lot of energy. I'm gaining energy from her songs a lot these days.

Do you have a message for your fans in India?
MAYNA: We worked hard on our new album, so please give us a lot of support. Thank you always and we'll work harder in the future. HOT ISSUE will never let you down.

NAHYUN: I hope the situation will get better as soon as possible so that we can meet face-to-face. We prepared a lot for the comeback album 'ICONS' which has a different charm from 'GRATATA', so please show a lot of interest and look forward to it. Thank you so much~

EXCLUSIVE: "I love to flaunt my freckles as that's natural," says Pavitra Rishta actress Abhidnya Bhave

Actress Abhidnya Bhave, who's known as the undisputed style diva of Marathi cinema is one of the biggest stars of that industry. The actress who started her career with Hindi television moved to regional television as that gave her a much bigger name, fame, and position. But apart from being an impeccable actress, Abhidnya has also inspired her fans to embrace their flaws and be unapologetic about the same.

"I love to flaunt my freckles as that's natural," says Pavitra Rishta actress Abhidnya Bhave

She says, "Whenever I post my pictures, I make sure that I don't smoothen my pictures to an extent where I look fake. I love to flaunt my freckles as that's natural. My talent stays unperturbed by the natural metamorphosis, and if I also become the part of that crowd where they try and exemplify that looking perfect means to have flawless skin or dressing a certain way, then what's the difference between them and me? I was born to stand out"

Well, that's something really inspiring in these modern times. The current set of generation who are more inclined towards looking perfect, being perfect in other aspects is overlooked in true means. We surely need more people like Abhidnya who resonate and inspire her fans for embracing themselves the way they are.
